Description
The University of Otago is New Zealand’s oldest university. It was established in 1869, just 21 years after the founding of the Otago province, where it takes it’s name.
The building was designed by Maxwell Bury in the gothic style and constructed of blustone with Oamaru stone facings. The Clocktower is frequently photographed by students and visitors, and has become the university’s most iconic building – the distinctive spire against a blue sky is widely recognised and instantly connected to Otago.
